Year of the student protests
2012 can easily be called The Year of Student Protests in Hungary. The first occupational protest was held at the beginning of the year after the number of students eligible for government subsidised university education was lowered by the government. At the end of the year, after it became clear that the government plans to pay for only ten thousand students, protests were held for weeks, on several days per week, organized either by current university students or even high school students. As a result of this on 19th. December the government decided not to change quota numbers in relation to the preceding year.
